It will be awarded for the first time following the Nov. 21 game at UR Stadium.
UNH Football Notebook: CAA Expansion Won't Affect 'Cats Short-Term
DURHAM — There are numbers CAA commissioner Tom Yeager has a pleasure trying to crunch, and others that present more of a challenge.
Start with the tough ones. Two years from now, the CAA will welcome its 13th football-playing member, Old Dominion, which will be lodged in the league’s South Division and unbalance an unbalanced league schedule even more.
In 2012, Georgia State will bring the membership to 14, and play as a nominal member of the North Division, but with a specially-crafted schedule.
Dukes Demolished by Tribe
With a no. 5 national ranking and a top-rated defense, William and Mary was determined to end its five-game losing streak to James Madison.
A sellout crowd on Homecoming at Zable Stadium was ready as well.
After a quiet first half, the Tribe quickly raced to a commanding three-possession lead, defeating JMU 24-3 to move its record to 6-1 and 3-1 in the CAA.
It was the College’s first win over the Dukes (2-5, 0-4 CAA) since a 2004 victory in Harrisonburg.

William and Mary redshirt freshman cornerback B.W. Webb’s incredible performance in the victory at Virginia last weekend continues to earn him national accolades, as he has been selected as the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA)/Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week.
Webb is the first player from a FCS program to win the weekly honor since its inception in the 2001 season. Webb will be added to the 2009 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List, which helps determine candidates for the annual award that is presented to the best defensive player in college football.
Tribe Holds First Extended Fall Scrimmage
With two weeks remaining before the season-opening kickoff at Virginia on Sept. 5, the William and Mary football team continued its preparation for the upcoming campaign with an intra-squad scrimmage under the lights at Zable Stadium on Saturday evening.
Can Richmond give CAA another title?
In some people’s minds, defending national champion Richmond is one of the favorites to win the 2009 title. But the reality of the Colonial Athletic Association is that the Spiders might not even survive their own division, let alone the NCAA playoffs.

UNI’s Ruffin heads up latest group of Buchanan candidates
Missouri Valley Football Conference defensive player of the year James Ruffin is among the four latest candidates added to the watch list for the Buck Buchanan Award, presented annually to the top defensive player in FCS.
Ruffin racked up 18 tackles for loss (first in conference), 10 sacks, 69 tackles, and three forced fumbles for the Panthers last year, en route to All- America and All-MVFC honors.
Other players added to the list were Richmond cornerback Justin Rogers, Youngstown State defensive tackle Mychal Savage and William & Mary defensive end Adrian Tracy.

Wiliamsburg, Va. - The William and Mary football family lost one of its greatest players with the passing of Lou Creekmur on Sunday in Tamarac, Fla. Creekmur is the only Tribe football player currently in the NFL Hall of Fame.

Opinion: Additonal FB Expansion Could be Coming Soon to CAA
The Colonial Athletic Association will swell to 14 football schools in 2012, when Georgia State joins.
Too many? Too few? Or just right?
Rather than fret about growing too big too fast, maybe the league will say what the heck and just super-size it.
If it does, there are two schools that would be a geographic fit for the league - surely more of a fit than Georgia State. Adding them would be cost effective at a time when schools everywhere are looking to save wherever they can.
Five Tribe Football Players Earn VaSID All-State Honors
Five William and Mary football players have been selected to Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) All-State teams. Senior cornerback Derek Cox, junior defensive end Adrian Tracy and junior place kicker Brian Pate earned first-team honors, while junior tight end Rob Varno and sophomore punter David Miller garnered second-team distinction.

CAA Eyes Odd Slate
HARRISONBURG - Currently, not every football team in the Colonial Athletic Association plays every other member. In 2011 - for one season only - a school might not even face everyone in its own division.
Old Dominion will become the seventh team in the CAA’s South Division in 2011, while the North will remain at six teams. CAA commissioner Tom Yeager said Wednesday that four of the South teams will play all six divisional foes, while three will play only five.
Hampton Undergoes Three Major Coaching Changes, Raising Issues
HAMPTON — Hampton University will enter the 2009-10 school year with new leadership in its three most visible sports, unusual flux in what is traditionally one of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s most stable and successful athletic programs.
HU is the only Division I athletic program in the country to replace its football and men’s and women’s basketball coaches this year. All three replacements were hired within a matter of hours and promoted from the previous staffs or within the university.
“I consider myself to be a student of Vince Lombardi,” HU athletic director Lonza Hardy said last week, referring to the Pro Football Hall of Fame coach. “Vince Lombardi said, ‘Never apologize for trying to win.’ Consequently, I don’t apologize for putting what I believe are the right people in the right places at the right time.”
FCS Playoffs Netted Profit for JMU

That translated into a $14,839 profit.
