Super Fat Tuesday
Sure it’s “Super Tuesday” and it’s “Fat Tuesday". But only one day before high schools ceremonies where their players sign national letter of intent on National Signing Day, many followers of college football had their own “Super Fat Tuesday” compiling lists of commits for FCS schools.
...
Maryland
Bobby Cooper, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound quarterback from South River High in Edgewater, Md., committed to Old Dominion’s upstart football program today.
Cooper was also recruited by Richmond, Dayton and Marist and said he had an offer from Maryland to be an invited walk-on.
“My understanding is that ODU will bring in two quarterbacks in this class, so I’m going to have a good chance to play early,” Cooper said.
That other quarterback could be Tommy Reamon Jr., who has called a press conference for Tuesday evening to announce his college intentions. The Gloucester High senior has narrowed his list to four schools: Missouri, Buffalo, South Florida and Old Dominion.
Cooper’s commitment brings ODU’s total of committed players to 18. The Monarchs will redshirt its entire first class and begin play in FCS in the fall of 2009. ODU will join the Colonial Athletic Association two years later.
“He’s big, he can throw, and for what it’s worth, he has some football savvy,” said Cooper’s high school coach, Steve Erxleben.
Pennsylvania
Ryan McGinn, a defensive lineman for St. Joseph’s Prep (PA), has orally committed to Holy Cross.
Holy Cross, which competes in the Patriot League, is coached by Tom Gilmore, who played football at North Catholic and Penn.
“He’s a real good guy [and] was excited about me making my visit,” said McGinn, a 6-foot-3 230-pounder.
Archbishop Wood’s Joe Makoid, a 6-foot, 240-pound, two-way lineman, has committed to Villanova. His parents, Joe and Cathy, both went to school there. The elder Makoid was a defensive lineman for the Wildcats.
Germantown Academy’s Kevin Doty, a fullback and linebacker, has committed to Lafayette. The 6-3 245-pounder is projected to play tight end for the Leopards.
East Stroudsburg South’s John Parker has New Hampshire interested in him, where he could play defensive end or fullback in college. Two-time Class A All-State wide receiver Wade Williams from Pius X is looking at Bloomsburg and King’s College and is waiting for an offer from Lehigh. Pocono Mountain East defensive end Matt Herman could play at Bucknell.

Middleton High School will be holding a signing day ceremony for Keegan Nesvacil and Misha Danilov at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the Student Services Conference room at Middleton High School. The duo recently announced that they will be signing NCAA National Letters of Intent on Wednesday to play college football this fall.
Nesvacil will play football at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. A 6-foot-3, 225-pound tight end, Nesvacil will be playing for coach John Stiegelmeier and the Jackrabbits. South Dakota State is a member of the Great West Football Conference and is a Division I FCS program. Nesvacil earned All-Big Eight Conference honorable mention honors as a senior.
Danilov will play football at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. A 6-7, 270-pound offensive lineman, Danilov will be playing for coach Mark Farley and the Panthers. UNI
enjoyed an undefeated regular season in 2007, and was a Division I FCS playoff quarterfinalist. Northern Iowa is a member of the Gateway Conference. Danilov earned All-Big Eight second-team honors as a senior.
Florida
Jefferson tailback Jamil Crews has orally committed to Bucknell and offensive lineman Sebastian Cadavid has committed to Princeton, Dragons coach Mike Fenton said Monday.
Bucknell was Crews top choice for much of the process, and he visited the campus last week. Cadavid also received interest from Bucknell, but Princeton came in late last week and scooped up the talented lineman.
