Pigskin Preview Is Held
Georgia State University will be in the football business for real when the school fields its first team in 2010, just two short years away.
...
According to Athletic Director Mary McElroy the first team will compete in NCAA Division I (formerly Division IAA) and will play their games at the Georgia Dome. Bill Curry, a name synonymous with class and integrity in the coaching profession, has accepted the challenge of building GSU football as the program’s first coach.
Although Coach Curry wasn’t in attendance at the preview, he made himself available via a conference call, and said, “This opportunity came as a total surprise to me, but we’re not going to waste any time and will begin to evaluate players immediately. I plan to visit UAB and S. Florida, two schools who did a great startup job, and see how they did it. I’m well along in hiring a football staff and we’ll have some names in a couple of weeks as soon as they are approved by the university.
