Bulldogs Trampled by Marist
On Saturday night, the Bryant Bulldog football team (3-3) traveled to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to play the Marist Red Foxes (2-5). After beating Wagner (2-4) two weeks ago by a score of 24-14 for Bryant’s first Division I victory, the Bulldogs had a bye last weekend. They had a lot of momentum coming into this matchup with Marist, but the Red Foxes offensive proved to be deadly in the 34-7 loss.
...
The big story for Marist was their quarterback, Chris Debowski, who completed 15 of 28 passes for 321 yards and tied a school record with 4 touchdown passes. Receiver James LaMacchia caught 4 of Debowski’s passes for 154 yards and 2 touchdowns. The combination of Debowski and LaMacchia produced the two big plays of the day. On Marist’s first offensive play of the game, the quarterback and receiver hooked up for an 80 yard touchdown. In the third quarter, they connected again for a 56 yard score.
The Bulldogs did a good job of putting together some productive drives, but could not finish. A Rory Foley goal line interception of a Jay Graber pass and a 35 yard missed field goal by Chris Bird were costly for Bryant. Graber finished by going 11-15 for 119 yards in the air. The lone Bulldog touchdown was a 7 yard run by Lindsey Gamble with just under 11 minutes to play in the fourth quarter.
Gamble and Jerell Smith performed very well on the ground for Bryant. Gamble rushed 20 times for 100 yards and Smith carried the ball 11 times for 94 yards. On the defensive end, Paul Polomski recorded 8 tackles, Jason Riffe had 7 and a sack, and Don Smith had 6.
This Saturday is Parents & Family Weekend. The upcoming football game will be a battle between the Bulldogs and the Robert Morris Colonials (2-4). The game can be heard on WOON-AM 1240 and WJMF 88.7 FM.
