Presbyterian Head Coach Leaving
Bobby Bentley, who left Byrnes High School in 2006 to become head football coach at Presbyterian College, will leave the Blue Hose this week for a job in Spartanburg School District 5.
Bentley confirmed Monday night that he has accepted the position with the school district.
He said he would not comment further because he has not yet had a chance to tell his team about his decision.
PC players are scheduled to return to campus on Tuesday.
Monday night the school district accepted a recommendation for Bentley to be named to the position of district-wide athletic director and public information officer.
Byrnes is the only high school in the district, which also has two middle schools, two intermediate schools and six elementary schools.
Bentley played college football for the Blue Hose and is a 1990 PC graduate.
He is 10-13 in two years as the head coach of the Blue Hose, which entered NCAA Division I in 2007. He is in the third year of a four-year contract.
Before taking over at PC, Bentley led the Rebels to four straight Group AAAA state championships from 2002-2005.
