2009 Montana schedule announced
The University of Montana football team will play an 11-game schedule in 2009. The schedule features six home contests, including four against Big Sky Conference teams. The annual Homecoming game, which will be played on Oct. 10, will match the Grizzlies against Cal Poly.
The Grizzlies begin their conference slate Sept. 19 with the Portland State Vikings. Other league match-ups at Washington-Grizzly Stadium include Eastern Washington, Weber State and Northern Colorado.
Montana’s Homecoming game against the Mustangs features two teams that were ranked second (Grizzlies) and 10th (Cal Poly) in the Sports Network’s final Football Championship Subdivision poll last season.
“We are excited about our 2009 home football schedule,” Montana Director of Athletics Jim O’Day said. “It brings in two of the top teams in the FCS with Weber State (ranked seventh in the Sports Network’s final poll) and Cal Poly, both of which advanced to the playoffs.
“In addition, we will host two rivalry-type games at home against Portland State and Eastern Washington, along with an improving Northern Colorado team.”
Montana opens the 2009 season at home against Western State and then travels to play UC Davis.
The Grizzlies’ Big Sky road games are at Northern Arizona, Sacramento State, Idaho State and Montana State for the 109th Grizzly-Bobcat game.
