Red Foxes Begin Play In Pioneer League This Season.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Athletics Department released its 2009 football schedule Tuesday afternoon at the Coaches Preview Luncheon held at the Cornell Boathouse on campus. The Red Foxes, who will play their first season in the Pioneer Football League this fall, will have eight conference games and three non-conference games in their 11-game schedule.

“Moving into the Pioneer League, we have eight games everyone is tremendously excited about as we compete for a league championship,” said head coach Jim Parady, who is entering his 18th season at the helm. “We’re also able to keep some rivalries going with non-conference opponents that have given us great games in the past. We’re looking forward to our five home games and we believe we have a chance to be successful this season.”

After starting the season with a non-conference game at Sacred Heart on Sept. 5, Marist will have its first Pioneer League game on Saturday, Sept 12, when the Red Foxes host Drake. The team will also host league games against Campbell on Family Weekend on Oct. 3, defending PFL champion Jacksonville on Alumni Weekend on Oct. 10 and Valparaiso on Oct. 31. The Red Foxes will close out their home schedule against Georgetown on Senior Day on Nov. 7.

The Red Foxes’ road conference games will be at San Diego (Sept. 19), Morehead State (Oct. 24), Davidson (Nov. 14) and Dayton (Nov. 21). Marist will also have a non-conference road game at Bucknell on Sept. 26.

Last season, Marist faced two Pioneer League opponents in San Diego and Davidson. The Red Foxes fell at San Diego in their first game of the season, but posted a 24-19 win at Davidson to close out the 2008 slate.

Game times will be announced at a later date.
