Football media guide dedicated to the Werner family
NATCHITOCHES - Northwestern State’s 2009 football media guide has been dedicated to Coach Dan Werner and his family, daughter Maya and son Ian, and the late Kim Werner.
Coach Werner joined the Demon football staff in January, but withdrew after the sudden passing of his wife at their Oxford, Miss., home in her sleep overnight on National Signing Day, Feb. 4.

In only a few weeks, Dan and Kim had already become a valued part of the Demon football family.
Everyone at NSU, led by president Dr. Randy Webb, athletic director Greg Burke and head football coach Bradley Dale Peveto, will always treasure the relationship with the Werners.
“Amidst all of the excitement and enthusiasm which has surrounded Demon football since the arrival of new head coach Bradley Dale Peveto, it truly is appropriate that we maintain perspective and remember the influence that the Werner family, albeit it for a brief period of time, had on our athletic program and university,” said Burke. “Dedicating the 2009 NSU Football Media guide to the Werner family is a meaningful way of letting them know how much they mean to us and that they will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers throughout the upcoming season.”
“Dan made a tremendous impression with everybody he met in the short time he was with us, and those of us who got to meet Kim just adored her,” said Peveto. “We thought dedicating the media guide to the Werner family was a good way to show that they are still on our minds and remain in our hearts and part of our Demon football family.”
