Willingham Joins SFA Coaching Staff
Jake Willingham has been hired to coach the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack running backs head coach J.C. Harper announced Monday morning.
“When our running back’s position came open,” said Harper. “I wanted to hire someone who was already familiar with our system. I knew with Jake it was going to be a smooth transition with his experience over the past three seasons.
“He gained valuable knowledge during his time at Texas Tech. He continued to prove himself as the inside receivers coach at West Texas A&M last season. Jake, whose father is a coach at Ennis High School, is also very familiar with Texas high school football,” added Harper.
Willingham comes to SFA from West Texas A&M where he worked with the Buffalo receivers. During his time in Canyon, Willingham helped produce one of the nation’s most prolific offenses.
During the 2008 season, the Buffaloes ranked among the nation’s top two in three statistical categories. West Texas A&M led the nation averaging 428.6 yards per game, finished second in the country in total offense (544.7 ypg) and scoring offense (48.6 ppg).
Prior to his stop in Canyon, Willingham spent two seasons as a student assistant at Texas Tech. During his time in Lubbock, Willingham worked with the Red Raider receivers.
