Texas State, UTSA as FBS Schools Discussed by Current FBS Coach
For the last few years, both Texas State and UTSA have been involved in conversations related to conference expansion.
For the first time, a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) coach commented publicly in regards to adding the two Southland Conference schools to the Sun Belt Conference, doing so during a chat with fans on his school’s web site.
“I see UTSA and Texas State as opportunities for the future of football in this state,” said North Texas head coach Todd Dodge. “The Texas schools need to stick together, and in my opinion, could form a conference of their own.”
UNT is no stranger to both schools, having been a member of the SLC from 1983-1994, overlapping for several years with the current members of the conference.
The Sun Belt commissioner recently stated during the league’s Media Day event that the league is not presently in expansion mode.
