BSC:
OFFENSE
Eastern Washington quarterback Matt Nichols, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound senior from Cottonwood, Calif., completed 28-of-38 passes for 380 yards and four touchdowns in the 18th-ranked Eagles’ 41-28 victory over Southern Utah of the Great West Conference. Nichols amassed 455 yards of total offense and accounted for five touchdowns. He rushed for 75 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown run to put the Eagles up 28-7 in the third quarter. Nichols became the Big Sky’s career leader in total offense, surpassing the 17-year-old mark of Weber State’s Jamie Martin. Nichols enters the final regular-season game with 12,440 yards of total offense. Eastern Washington handed Southern Utah its first home loss of the season, and moved to 7-3 overall to remain in the hunt for an at-large playoff bid. In his last four games, the Walter Payton Award candidate has completed 67.7 percent of his passes for 1,432 yards with 15 touchdowns and no interceptions. This is Nichols’ second Player of the Week honor this season and the sixth of his career.
DEFENSE
Montana State defensive end Dane Fletcher, a 6-2, 245-pound senior from Bozeman, Mont., matched his career high with 11 tackles – four for loss – tallied 2.5 sacks, three quarterback hurries and broke up a pass in Montana State’s 27-17 must-win over Sacramento State. It was Fletcher’s first healthy game back since a bout with mononucleosis. With the Bobcats leading by seven in the fourth quarter, Sacramento State blocked an MSU field goal to grab momentum and state a potential game-tying drive. But Fletcher registered a sack on second down, flushed the QB from the pocked and into a Dan Ogden sack on third down to force a punt. On Sacramento State’s final drive, Fletcher had ½ sack, a QB hurry and a pass breakup. Fletcher, a Buck Buchanan Award winner, ranks second nationally in tackles-for-loss per game (2.06). This is Fletcher’s second Player of the Week honor this season and the fourth of his career. The victory helped MSU improve to 7-3 overall and keep its at-large playoff hopes alive.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Weber State punt returner/wide receiver Tim Toone, a 5-10, 175-pound senior from Peoria, Ariz., returned a punt 90 yards for a touchdown and finished with 181 all-purpose yards in 19th-ranked Weber State’s 29-7 victory over Northern Arizona. Toone’s return, on a snow-covered slippery field, put the Wildcats ahead 13-9 with 6:50 to play in the third quarter. It was Toone’s second 90-plus yard punt return for a touchdown this season. He leads the nation in punt returns with an average of 21.2 yards per return. Toone also caught eight passes for 91 yards as Weber State moved to 6-4 and kept its at-large playoff hopes alive. This is Toone’s fourth career Player of the Week honor, and the second this season.

Brown led Liberty in rushing and receiving and scored three touchdowns to lead the Flames past Gardner-Webb, 51-28. He caught 10 passes for a school-record 198 yards – the fourth-highest single-game total in Big South history, and scored on an 80-yard pass play that broke the game open. His first interception came in the end zone towards the end of the first half that ended Stony Brook’s scoring threat and preserved CSU’s 20-17 lead. Kuzdale’s second pick was on the first play of overtime, giving the Bucs the opportunity to win. He also had a pass break-up on a third-and-goal from the 1-yard line that forced SBU to kick a game-tying field goal in the fourth quarter instead of allowing the go-ahead touchdown. Kuzdale also broke up a pass in the fourth quarter on a third down that forced a punt.
SPECIAL TEAMS

Special Teams Player of the Week
Jon Striefsky, PK, Delaware
Striefsky, the CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week, was responsible for 12 of Delaware’s 18 points in the Blue Hens’ loss at Navy Saturday. The senior booted a 47-yard field goal in the first quarter helping get Delaware on the board. His 39-yard kick seconds into the second quarter pulled the Blue Hens within one and his 25-yard field goal on the last play before halftime gave Delaware a 9-7 lead heading to the lockerrooms. After a Navy score early in the third quarter, Striefsky pulled Delaware within two points with a 21-yard chipshot. The Lansdale, Pa., native tied a career-long with the 47-yard kick and has now converted 39 field goal tries in his four-year Delaware career.

GWC:
Co-Offensive
WR Dominique Johnson - Cal Poly (6-3, 206, Jr., Moreno Valley, Calif.)
Johnson established career highs with 13 catches for 273 yards and five touchdowns in Cal Poly’s 50-48 loss to South Dakota. Johnson’s five scoring catches is a school record, breaking the old mark of four set by Ramses Barden against Weber State in 2007. In setting a season high in receiving yards for Great West receivers, he scored on catches that spanned 20, 59, 13, 42 and 42 yards. Cal Poly trailed 50-28 with 4:23 to go in the third quarter and Johnson ignited the comeback with his last three touchdown catches.
QB Noah Shepard - South Dakota (6-2, 215, Sr., Thornton, Colo.)
Noah Shepard continued his assault on the USD record book with another career day, as he tied USD’s single-game completion record in a thrilling 50-48 road victory at Cal Poly on Saturday. A record he already set in 2007, Shepard connected on 26 of his 37 attempts for 413 yards against the Mustangs. He also became the record holder for career 400-yard passing games with two, while his five touchdown passes versus the Mustangs were just one short of the single-game record. He also rushed for 61 yards and two touchdowns on the day.
Defensive
LB Mike Morales - UC Davis (6-2, 240, Sr., Los Altos, Calif.)
Linebacker Mike Morales posted a team-high eight total tackles, including two solo, as UC Davis captured its first Great West Conference championship since 2005. Playing on Senior Day, Morales was also credited with an 0.5 TFL (0 yards) in his tackle totals and had a pass breakup. The Aggie defense held North Dakota to just 265 total yards after the Fighting Sioux came in averaging 322.3. The Aggie defense forced a trio of 3-and-outs on North Dakota’s first thee possessions (for 7 yards) and five for the game… Morales now has 133 solo stops to move within three of tying for the top spot on the Aggies’ career charts - his six assisted stops moved him up to No. 6 on that chart.
Special Teams
P Trevor Ward - Southern Utah (6-4, 245, Sr., Ogden, Utah)
Standout Trevor Ward punted five times for 250 yards, put four inside the 20, and had a long punt of 61 yards in Southern Utah’s 41-28 loss to Eastern Washington. That was his fourth game averaging at least 50 yards per punt, including his third in the last four games. His 47.8 yards per punt average leads the conference and would be the NCAA’s top mark but he falls one punt short of the necessary number of kicks to qualify for the national rankings. His 47.8 yard per-punt average is also the best in SUU history as is his 42.218 yard career average.

IVY:
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Penn senior quarterback KYLE OLSON (Los Alamitos, Calif.) had a stellar day in a driving rainstorm in the Quakers’ 17-7 win over Harvard to win a share of their first Ivy title in six seasons. Olson accounted for both of Penn’s touchdowns, throwing for 159 yards and a touchdown on 14-of-24 passing, while also rushing for the game-winning touchdown in the second quarter. He led an offense that outgained the Ivy League’s top offensive unit. Maybe most importantly, he did not turn the ball over once and was not sacked.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Penn senior linebacker JAKE LEWKO (Medford, N.J.) stepped up for maybe the best game of his career in the biggest game of his career in the Quakers’ win over Harvard. In holding the top scoring offense in the Ivy League to just seven points, Lewko recorded a career-high 15 tackles, six of those being solo stops and two were tackles for loss. By the end of the day, Walters had moved into fourth on Cornell’s career receptions chart (142 catches) and surpassed 2,000 receiving yards (2,004), becoming the fourth Big Red player to hit that mark. He also increased his all-purpose yardage total to 5,689 (second all-time in Ivy history) and increased his Ivy record kickoff (2,715) and punt return yardage (970) totals.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth freshman strong safety GARRETT WAGGONER (Sarasota, Fla.) posted a career-high nine tackles in the Big Green’s 14-7 overtime loss to Brown. Waggoner’s biggest contribution was streaking across the field on a Brown pass in the waning seconds of regulation to bat the ball away from a wide-open receiver near the goal line. Without his effort, Brown almost assuredly would have reached the end zone on the playfor the win. Of his nine tackles, seven were solo with 0.5 tackles for loss along with two pass break-ups.
