UND's Miller Earns NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship
The National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Postgraduate Scholarship Committee has awarded a $7,500 scholarship to University of North Dakota senior football player Andrew Miller for part-time or full-time postgraduate study at a university or professional school. Miller graduates this spring with a bachelor’s degree in biology and heads to medical school in Wisconsin this fall.

“This award stands as a significant honor for Miller and your institution,” said Bob Chichester, the organization’s director educational affairs in an e-mail announcing the scholarship award.
Miller is the 32nd UND student-athlete to receive a postgraduate scholarship and the 14th Fighting Sioux football player to do so.
The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was created in 1964 to promote and encourage postgraduate education by rewarding the Association’s most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA championship and/or emerging sports. In maintaining the highest broad-based standards in the selection process, the program aims to reward those individuals whose dedication and effort are reflective of those characteristics necessary to succeed and thrive through postgraduate study in an accredited graduate degree program.
Miller, a linebacker and co-captain from Menomonie, Wis., is a Dean’s List regular at UND and was also among the 55 student-athletes named last year to the prestigious 12th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star team.
Among his many other awards and scholarships, Miller is a two-time recipient of the UND John & Marcia Jarrett Athletic Scholarship. John Jarrett, son of Glenn “Red” Jarrett, played football at UND from 1958 to 1961 and was a member of the 1958 NCC championship team. John enrolled in med school and specialized in plastic surgery and developed a world renowned procedure for reconstructive breast surgery.
Miller scored several other honors while at UND: he was selected the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second team selection; he was a three-time academic all-conference selection; and he was a 2008 All-Great West Conference honorable mention.
