Three Transfers Join Georgia Southern's Team
Releases granted to three student-athletes
Three student-athletes have transferred to Georgia Southern and have enrolled in summer classes at the University. Ryan Byrne, a sophomore from Woodstock, Ga., John Douglas, a junior from Augusta, Ga., and Billy Greer, a junior kicker from Crosby, Texas, have joined the Eagle football team. Byrne will play at offensive guard with Douglas slated for defensive end.

Byrne, who started his collegiate career at Western Michigan, made two starts and played in all 11 games last season. He redshirted in 2008. Douglas saw playing time in 11 games at Auburn in 2009. He started the season opener in 2008 for the Tigers before suffering an injury that limited his playing time for most of the remainder season. In two years at Blinn College, Greer made nine field goals and 58 PATs with a long of 43 yards.
Three student-athletes have accepted releases from Georgia Southern with the intent of transferring to other institutions. Wide receiver Cole Gordon, quarterback Brent Osborne and defensive end Darryl Walker will not return to the Georgia Southern program for the 2010 season.
