Georgia State, Alabama Agree to Move Date of November Contest
ATLANTA-Georgia State’s season-ending football game at national champion Alabama has been moved to Thursday, Nov. 18 at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the two schools announced Thursday.
Kickoff time and television exposure are to be determined.
The Crimson Tide requested the change from the original date of Saturday, Nov. 20, and Georgia State Director of Athletics Cheryl L. Levick and head coach Bill Curry agreed to the new date after consulting with GSU President Mark Becker.
“This whole Alabama opportunity has been a huge boost for our program from the very beginning,” said Curry. “We are fortunate to be able to play a game in Tuscaloosa, and we believe that moving from Saturday to Thursday can give it added appeal for our players and our fans because Thursday night games have become so special in college football.
“We’ll make the necessary adjustments and go play the game.”
Levick said, “We understand that Alabama is in a tough situation with their schedule, and we are agreeable to their request to change the date. The Alabama athletics administration has kept us informed throughout the process, and they been very accommodating as we work through the necessary travel and logistical changes needed for the new game date.
“Thursday night football games are special events for players and fans, and our inaugural season begins and ends with these exciting games,” she added.
