SoCon, SportSouth Announce Football Schedule
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference, in conjunction with television partner SportSouth, announced today (July 8) the league’s 2010 football television schedule. Branded SoCon Saturdays, the Southern Conference football schedule on SportSouth features eight games and includes all nine conference schools. The final two matchups set for November 13 and November 20 will be selected jointly by the conference and SportSouth to choose games that figure to have the greatest impact on the league race.

“The concept of two wild card weekends is something we’ve discussed in the past and are excited to finally put in place,” said Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino. “This will assure our viewers of seeing meaningful conference games down the stretch in November.”
The eight-game package is an increase from last year’s seven telecasts on SportSouth. Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn., will serve as the site of the first SoCon Saturday broadcast when the Chattanooga Mocs host Appalachian State September 4. The Mountaineers won their fifth consecutive Southern Conference championship last year with a perfect 8-0 mark in league play and will make three SoCon Saturday appearances.
The Elon Phoenix, who finished 2009 with a 9-3 mark, will take part in the next two broadcasts. Georgia Southern will play host to Elon September 25. Two weeks later Elon travels to Boone, N.C. to take on the ASU Mountaineers.
Furman visits Samford’s Seibert Stadium on October 16 in a rematch of last year’s game which saw the Paladins hold on for a 26-24 victory. The Mountaineers visit rival Western Carolina October 23 while The Citadel travels to take on Wofford the following week.
