Ten local alums to participate in UTSA’s inaugural practice
The University of Texas-San Antonio football team will hold its first-ever football practice this afternoon. The program, which currently consists of 28 scholarship players and 41 walk-ons, will enter the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision next year as an independent program and will play its first-ever game on Sept. 3, 2011 against Northeastern State.

Wide receiver Brooks Blakemore (Wimberley, Class of 2010), wide receiver John Garofoli (Stony Point, Class of 2010), kicker Matthew Guevara (Georgetown, Class of 2009), defensive back Kevin Lam (McNeil, Class of 2009), wide receiver Marcellus Mack (Giddings, Class of 2010), running back Mike Wilburn (San Marcos, Class of 2010) and defensive back Taylor Wrinkle (Lake Travis, Class of 2010) are all on the UTSA roster. Additionally, Westwood offensive lineman Zach Crawford, Hutto defensive back Alondre Thorn and San Marcos running back Terrance Wilburn have all verbally committed to the Roadrunners.
The UTSA roster also has its fair share of New Braunfels alumni on it. Quarterback John Simmons, running back Jeremy Garcia and linebacker/kicker Aaron Hayduk all helped lead the Unicorns to the state semifinals last season.
