Richmond alum joins Eskimos’ quarterback auditions
University of Richmond Spiders alumnus Eric Ward became the Edmonton Eskimos’ fourth quarterback on Tuesday afternoon.
Ward, 24, joins veteran starter Ricky Ray plus rookies Matt Nichols and Marc Mueller at training camp.
The six-foot-two pivot was a four-year starter at Richmond, where he won a NCAA Football Championship Subdivision title in 2008. He set single-season school records in passing yards (2,808), attempts (359), completions (230) and passing percentage (64.1), and tied a school record with 17 touchdowns that seasons.
Ward signed with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons in May 2010, but was waived a month later.
Eskimos head coach Kavis Reed said a veteran quarterback is expected to be added to the training camp mix at QB on Wednesday morning.
