Southland Conference Refreshes Branding Marks
Enhanced logo signals new chapter in league transition
The Southland Conference has refreshed its branding with an enhanced series of identifying marks as the league transitions with new membership and closes in on its 50th anniversary in 2013.
Through a partnership with Old Hat Creative, a full-service creative agency based in Norman, Okla., the Southland has initially reshaped its primary logo and word marks, and there are also plans for additional promotional collaborations between the conference and company in the coming year.
“The Southland marks were last revised in 2002, and during the last decade, the logos have served the conference well,” league commissioner Tom Burnett said. “Because of this, and the fact that the marks are still so well thought of, the conference staff and membership felt an enhancement of the logos, not a wholesale change, was appropriate.”
The revised logo still features the traditional Southland colors of navy blue, gold and white, but the mark now has a beveled, three-dimensional look, and a brighter gold trim is now two-toned and also beveled. The familiar Southland starburst on the full logo has also been modified to feature 10 points.
“This is an exciting time for the Southland and its members as we continue to focus on competitive success, academic achievement, and new incoming membership that makes the league even stronger,” Burnett added. “The enhanced logos help distinguish these facts, and have been well-received by the league membership. We will begin to see the transition to the revised marks on our campuses in the very near future.”
