Who Will Be Delaware State's Quarterback?
Three-man battle could be highlight of spring.
DOVER – It is just the type of spring football camp that Delaware State University coach Al Lavan looks forward to most – one with a bevy of competition for starting positions.
The Hornets began this year’s camp at Alumni Stadium on Wednesday night, ready to put in the kind of work they hope will lead them back to the top of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference this fall.
Delaware State returns 12 starters and 41 letter winners from last year’s team, which finished 5-6 overall and 5-3 in the MEAC.
NCAA: Betting Equals No Playoffs (for Delaware and Delaware State)
Markell calls association’s ban on hosting postseason sporting events ‘retaliatory’.
The NCAA would ban playoff games in Delaware if the state legalizes sports betting, as proposed last week by Gov. Jack Markell.
That would mean no more home playoff games for the University of Delaware, including its football squad, which has played 22 such games since 1973. Delaware State University and Wesley College officials also say the policy would have a great impact on them.
“It would be tragic” if the Blue Hens could not play NCAA postseason games at home, Delaware football coach K.C. Keeler said Wednesday after a spring practice session.
Eastern Washington Responds to NCAA Penalties
CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington University issued this response Tuesday afternoon to the penalities handed down by the NCAA to its football program:
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released its findings from a two-year review of activities involving the Eastern Washington University football team from 2003-07. The NCAA looked into a series of secondary rule violations, which, taken in total, led to a major infractions case. The violations largely centered on a lack of compliance to participation rules regarding academically non-qualified and ineligible student athletes.
The university self-reported the violations to the NCAA in February of 2007.
UT Chattanooga: Huesman’s Salary in Middle of SoCon Pack
For years the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s football coaches have been at or near the bottom of the Southern Conference in both wins and pay. The latter is no longer the case, and it’s up to new coach Russ Huesman to change the former.
A memorandum of understanding — essentially a contract — was approved this week by UT system president John Petersen for Huesman to receive a base salary of $150,000 for six years. That is about $35,000 a year more than UTC paid Rodney Allison last year.
Ex-Moc Huesman Greeted Warmly as Head Coach
A crowd gathered at Finley Stadium on Monday not for a homecoming game, but for a homecoming.
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football family came together in the Stadium Club to welcome and celebrate the hiring of one of its own, Russ Huesman, as the new Mocs coach. Huesman was introduced by athletic director Rick Hart at a news conference attended by as many as 200 current and former players, alumni, staff and boosters.
Huesman, the defensive coordinator at Richmond the past five years, said he was overwhelmed by what he saw.
