Hawks' offense, Kyle Frazier sharp in scrimmage
An efficient and balanced offensive performance highlighted the Monmouth University football team’s first intrasquad scrimmage of the 2010 preseason Saturday afternoon at Kessler Field.
“I was really happy how clean it was. Our efficiency all over the field was pretty good,” head coach Kevin Callahan said. “We played without many penalties, which is something we are always concerned about in the first scrimmage with referees. The offense had several extended-play drives, we were able to move the ball and anytime you can win the ball possession battle you have a chance to win.”

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg for one of the Northeast Conference’s most successful programs.

Hough not finished with football
The summer sun never fully sets in Finland, where Greg Hough went to keep playing football.
Not ready to quit the game but not quite NFL material when he graduated from Duquesne in December 2008, Hough, once a star fullback for the Dukes and at Pine-Richland High School, discovered a vibrant American football community overseas that helped rekindle his passion for the game.
Years after the NFL Europe ceased in 2007, hundreds of American football teams still exist across the continent, some of which have been around since the 1970s. They’re the equivalent of American semi-pro clubs, and they pay American players, or “imports,” to play for their teams and help grow the sport in their countries, where “football” alone means soccer.

Steve Addazio was named interim head coach at the University of Florida when Urban Meyer decided he needed to take a leave of absence if not walk away altogether. Mike Sherman, the former head coach of the Green Bay Packers is busy rebuilding Texas A&M’s fortunes. Dave Campo is back with the Dallas Cowboys, where he was once the head coach. John Skladany recently signed on for a second tour of duty with the University of Central Florida. Mike Cerullo is part of the New Orleans Saints brain trust.
And now you can add the name of yet another former CCSU Blue Devil to the ranks of the nation’s most influential football coaches and administrators. Late last week Clifford Snow, a Bristol native and former Central defensive back, was introduced as the new director of football operations at the University of Kentucky.

Wide receiver makes it as a first year starter for the Dallas Cowboys
Former Monmouth University and current Dallas Cowboy wide receiver Miles Austin has been named to the 2009 National Football League Pro Bowl, league officials released on Tuesday.
The fourth year player has had a breakout season for the Cowboys, leading the NFC in receiving yardage (1,230 yards on a team-high 74 receptions) despite not being named a starter until week five. He’s only the sixth Cowboys receiver to score at least 10 touchdowns (11) in a season, and has 20 of the offense’ 56 total 20-plus-yard receiving gains this year. Earlier this season, Austin set the Cowboy record for reception yardage in a game, after racking up 250 yards and two touchdowns in an overtime win against Kansas City. The game against the Chiefs was his first career start. In 2006, Austin set the Cowboy record for longest kickoff return in a playoff game, when he scored on a 93 yard return against Seattle in a NFC Wildcard game.
